New England SPARROW Data Viewer
The New England SPARROW Desktop Viewer Toolkit (ArcView 3.x)IntroductionThe New England SPARROW Viewer Toolkit is a custom application that allows users to access, query, display, and export New England SPARROW spatial and tabular data. The Toolkit is an ArcView 3.x extension and uses a SPARROW-enhanced NHD dataset as the framework of the application. The Toolkit allows a user to interactively select a stream reach to query reach and catchment characteristic data and includes an additional tool to identify the upstream reaches and associated catchments that comprise the entire watershed to the selected reach. A selected set of SPARROW-modeled output can be displayed to the reaches or associated catchments with pull-down menu options in the application. The built-in display options for both nitrogen and phosphorus include total and incremental yields, yields by sources, concentrations, and primary sources. All other SPARROW variables can be displayed using the ArcView Legend Editor with linkages established between the stream and catchment map layers with the SPARROW tabular databases. SPARROW tabular data can be exported for a selected user-defined watershed. System RequirementsArcView 3.x, 320MB minimum hard drive disk space. Installation InstructionsThe SPARROW geographic information systems (GIS) data are available in multiple projection formats from this website. The source projection of the data is in an Albers projection, which should be the choice projection when using these data for regional applications. The New England-wide data are also available in six other projections to accommodate local statewide GIS projection parameters. To download a copy of the data and Toolkit, click on the appropriate sparrow_viewer_##.zip file that suits your needs (see table below).
After you have finished downloading the data, unzip the selected sparrow_viewer_##.zip file onto your computer's hard drive. When the file is unzipped, a sparrow_view directory will be created containing several subdirectories. Copy the New England SPARROW Viewer Extension file, nespvu.avx , from the sparrow_view directory, into the \ESRI\AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\EXT32 directory on your computer. The \ESRI folder should exist, if the ArcView 3.x is installed. Instruction on how to load and use the SPARROW Desktop Viewer Toolkit can be found, with a series of tutorial exercises, in the file sparrow_viewer.pdf located in the sparrow_view directory. |
